Seeing as we are looking at breeding some new 2yo's I thought I would give a list of possible sires that I have had some success with, or may be worth a look (of course their price may go up now!)
Giant Gizmo - By Giants Causeway who is becoming a sire of sires. He won on all three surfaces so can match with most mares. He does best with Mr Prospector line sired mares (he-mares). You can usually get him for 10bps.
Cape Canaveral - Bred to be a good one. By Mr Prospector out of the Seattle Slew mare Seaside Attraction. Has performed well with a variety of Dam sires but done well with Cozzene and Danzig based mares (he-mares). Try to get him on the cheap if you can.
Milwaukee Brew - Continues to be one of the top sires in Canada and of Canadian bred horses in the sim and real life. By Wild Again and a big plus is that he has no Mr P or Northern Dancer blood. He pairs well with both of those sire lines! He will bottom out at around 87 bps and is well worth the money.
Exhi - Freshman sire by Maria's Mon. If any horse in their career was a definition of a synthetic specialist, it's him. Won the Lexington and Ben Ali at Keeneland and was seen up here at Woodbine winning two major 3yo stakes. His offspring should be good at distances up to a 1 1/8th. With Mr P and Northern Dancer further back in his bloodlines you should be ok with either of those lines. He has one winner from one starter so far with AP Indy in the dam lines.
Silent Name - Returns to Canada after having some real life success with runners at Woodbine. He was a pretty good horse in real life going from 7f to 8f on the Turf and poly. He is by Japanese super sire and Kentucky Derby winner Sunday Silence out of a Danehill mare. With no Mr P blood in there that would probably be a good place to start for your mare selections. Get him on the cheap though as he isn't worth a big ticket.
Olmodavor - By AP Indy out of a El Gran senior mare. He looks to maybe have gotten a bit of a boost last year from Mike. He did sire one stakes winner who's mare was by along the storm cat line out of a Mr P line Dam Dam sire. Should get better as the races go longer, and versatile being able to run on all three surfaces. Bottoms out at 37 bps.
Thunderello - You looking for speed and sprints? This is your man! In real life he knew how to do one thing and that was run fast! Pedigree leans dirt side but he has had a few turf sprint winners. Some of his best horses have come out of Mr P line mares so you'll prob want to start there.
Where's The Ring - Has had success in real life as a sire. By Seeking the Gold out of a Blushing Groom mare. His offspring usually prefer a route of ground on the dirt. I've had some success pairing him with storm cat line mares. He's a 10 point steal if you ask me and worth a try!
Wilko - A very versatile sire in regards to surfaces and distances. A Breeders Cup Juvenile champ in his racing career, he never really moved on as a 3yo. In the sim he really hasn't gotten that much love. He sired a G2 stakes winner on the turf and since 08 hasn't sired much of anything. He is a bit on the pricey side for 32 bps but seeing as he is a Canadian sire by Awesome again, I'm willing to send a few of my mares to him to see if he can get some better horses.
Alydeed - This one may shock some of you but I think he deserves to be on here. He had his greatest time in the sim in his early days. A friend of mine breeding his best horse in Eighty Nine breed. Since then he hasn't had much but really hasn't been bred to many mares. Bottoming at 74bps he does deserve another shot. Alex (Ovechkin Stables) has a nice filly appropriately named Kinghaven that shows he still has some good blood in there. Alydeed won the Queen's plate and was a length away from winning the Preakness. He also was a G1 winning horse winning the G1 Carter. Give him a try!
Hell Roaring Creek - Who?! Yes, I know. When I started this rez I sat down with a few others from the rez to see who might be a well bred bargain sire. I tried numerous ones with little to no success. He is one who I'm happy to send my mares to again. Bred to go long by Storm Cat out of a Pleasant Colony mare, his offspring are doing just that. I have had two very nice runners from him. Both come from Mr P line mares (Street Sense and Dance to Destiny). You really can't go wrong with Storm Cat sire over a Mr P based mare can you!
Court Vision - A horse who at times in his career was brilliant, other times not so much! Scored a shocking upset of the Breeders' Cup Mile in the last start of his career. He also races such as the Woodbine Mile and Shadwell Turf Mile to his resume. He did start his career on the dirt with wins in the Remsen and Iroquois, and finished 3rd on the dirt as a 3yo. His bloodlines are also very regal being by Gulch out of the mare Weekend Storm (a half sister to A.P. Indy!). He is certainly an up and coming sire but the question will be how much you want to spend on one of his shares.
Acceptable - Remembered mostly as a horse who just couldn't score in the big races. Was 2nd in the BC Juvenile at Woodbine by a head to Boston Harbor. As a 3yo went on to finish second yet again in both the Holy Bull and Bluegrass. His sim record has been more impressive than his real life side. He seems to do well with storm cat line mares in the sim, as shown by his love of Pure Prize mares! Deeprock can attest to that with having a few nice ones that have run big numbers for 2yo's already. Get him for as low as you can. His runners should be like him and progress early in their careers.
There are many more sires to cover but thought I would go over some that may not be looked at. Who do you like? Who have you had success with? Is North Light your only go to Canadian sire? (Who I have had almost zero success with!..lol) Let us know in the message board.
